24th January 2025 marks International Day of Education and we’re celebrating by recapping resources available to develop your digital skills.  

LinkedIn Learning [available until March 2025] 

Free to all AU staff and students until March 2025, an online platform offering thousands of expert-led courses suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced. With LinkedIn Learning, you can develop a wide range of skills, from utilising AI tools and presenting with confidence to mastering new software, including various programming languages and Microsoft applications. Digital Skills Festival  

In 2023, we arranged the Digital Skills Festival and had a variety of internal and external speakers present on a variety of topics such as AI, Excel, Digital Wellbeing and Cyber security. You can view all the resources and recordings from every session here.  

Jisc: Everyday AI Tools 

As part of Aber Skills Week 2024, we invited Jisc’s Senior AI specialist Paddy Shepperd to talk about ‘Everyday AI Tools’, what tools can be used, how they’re advancing and the dangers. You can view the recording of the entire session here

AberSkills 

AberSkills is the central hub for all skills development on is available on the university webpages. AberSkills includes access to skills workshops, alongside help with library and information skills, wellbeing, and maths, stats and numerical skills.  

DigiTips 

Every Tuesday since September 2023, the Digital Skills Team have posted a small tip or trick to help develop your digital skills. You can view all DigiTips here.

In November 2023, we held Aberystwyth University’s first ever Digital Skills Festival. We held 28 different events over 5 days that spanned a variety of digital skills areas including sessions conducted on AI, cybersecurity, LinkedIn Learning, digital wellbeing, Excel and much more!  

You’re able to review all the workshops and presentations that took place on our Digital Skills Festival website under the 2023 recordings and resources tab where you can watch the sessions back and for practical sessions you can work along on the provided worksheets.

We would like to extend a big thank you to all our speakers and participants who attended Aberystwyth University’s first Digital Skills Festival in November 2023.

With 28 different digital events being held over 5 days, it was fantastic to be able to offer a variety of sessions ranging from an introduction to learning how to code to understanding the importance of our digital wellbeing and digital identity.

From our Digital Skills Festival website, you are now able to access all the recordings and resources from the sessions during the week so please take a look if you would like to refresh your knowledge on what you learnt or if you were unable to attend.

Aberystwyth University’s first Digital Skills Festival for students will take place next week from 6 to 10 November 2023!  

Throughout the week, there will be 28 events covering an array of topical digital areas. Events will include presentations on Artificial Intelligence, online safety, digital wellbeing, managing your digital footprint, and using Welsh on your computer. Additionally, external speakers from companies like Barclays and Clicky Media will discuss the digital skills necessary to excel in their own and similar companies. Finally, there will also be several interactive workshops on topics such as using software such as Microsoft Excel and mastering group work with an array of online tools.  

All students who attend three online sessions will be entered into a raffle where they will have the opportunity of winning one of two £50 vouchers.

Come and Present at our Digital Skills Festival! 🎉

From 6th – 10th November 2023 we are hosting Aberystwyth University’s Digital Skills Festival and we are looking for postgraduate students to deliver sessions. You can deliver a session either online or in-person and it can be a workshop, drop-in session or demonstration on a digital skill or software that you are proficient in using. For example, we would like some sessions on the following skills and software: 

  • Microsoft Packages – Essential or Advanced 
  • SPSS 
  • NVivo 
  • ArcGIS 
  • Python (or other programming software) 
  • Adobe Photoshop 
  • Social Media e.g., creating Instagram Reels, TikToks, Twitter, YouTube etc. 
  • Creating or editing videos 
  • ProTools 
  • Discord 

We are also open to any other skill or software you think is important and should be delivered!
