{"id":852,"date":"2021-10-12T07:09:15","date_gmt":"2021-10-12T06:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/research-festival\/?page_id=852"},"modified":"2021-10-12T08:58:23","modified_gmt":"2021-10-12T07:58:23","slug":"schools-competition","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/research-festival\/schools-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Schools&#8217; Poster Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Poster Competition on climate change for years 5-6 and 7-8<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the Festival of Research, the University&#8217;s Festival of Research has organised a climate change poster competition for years 5-6 and 7-8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1st Prize \u2013 *A trip on the University&#8217;s research boat!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"380\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/research-festival\/files\/2021\/10\/150-university-boat.jpeg\" alt=\"Cwch ymchwil y Brifysgol \/ University research boat\" class=\"wp-image-853\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pupils will have the opportunity to create a poster on climate change solutions and then present it during the Festival of Research week (18 &#8211; 22  October 2021).<\/li><li>The competition is open to pupils in years 5 and 6 (primary) and 7a 8 (secondary) and there will be a separate prize for the two categories.*<\/li><li>Links to videos created by experts at the university are attached to help you create your posters.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PLEASE NOTE: New closing date of 14th October 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(*There is currently a limit of 5 pupils on the boat, due to COVID rules).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Guidelines for Posters (A3):<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A3 poster will need to be created for the research festival poster competition on climate change. <\/li><li>Pupils should focus on the solutions \/ how to solve climate change with reference to solutions already in place around the local area such as the Rheidol hydropower plant and the local wind turbines.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Consider beginning with the question &#8216;What is climate change?&#8217;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Present expert or pupil research and \/ or activities they have undertaken. <\/li><li>Fact based on research ie, pie charts generated from questionnaire data. The posters will need some text (no pictures only).&nbsp;<\/li><li>Content to focus on solutions to climate change.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Consider links to the local area o What does Aberystwyth do?&nbsp;<ul><li>Can we do more?&nbsp;<\/li><li>What has your school done?&nbsp;o<\/li><li>What are you going to do now?&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Winners will be taken out on the boat* (this will be arranged in Spring time when there is more to see)!!&nbsp;<\/li><li>Information on how to carry out a small climate change research project has already been sent out and there is an opportunity for the school to take advantage of this resource as well.&nbsp;\u2022<\/li><li>IMPORTANT &#8211; The project does not have to be completed in order to register for the competition.
