A\u202ftheme\u202fwhich emerged for me was the way in which the use of a blended learning approached offered increased accessibility specifically\u202fby\u202ftailoring\u202fmodule content\u202fwhich suited\u202fthe\u202fneeds of students.\u202fAt Aberystwyth University, we are proud to have such a diverse\u202frange of students and provide an inclusive\u202fteaching approach.\u202fSome of the ways\u202fin which our courses have been adapted in response to the challenging teaching circumstances we have had\u202fthroughout the pandemic\u202fhad a significant\u202fimpact on improving accessibility to our students.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neil Taylor of the Computer Science Department did a fantastic talk\u202fon his experiences in\u202fcreating\u202faccessible interactive web-based resources. He was seeking to resolve confusion over the location of documents which he had created to provide information for third year dissertations. He developed a sphinx-doc which compiled all this information into one place and a more easily accessible format.\u202fHe was able to\u202fconfigure different themes and fonts to suit the needs of the students.\u202fNeil\u2019s talk emphasised the importance\u202fof the\u202fwebpage interface design in\u202fin ensuring wide accessibility.\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/aberystwyth.cloud.panopto.eu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=0a65cee3-2cd5-4308-a4d9-ad5c0083a0ab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">To find out more click here for the presentation.<\/a>\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the English\u202f&amp; Creative Writing\u202fDepartment gave a presentation\u202fthat\u202fpresented a case\u202fin favour\u202fof\u202fthe\u202fhyflex\u202fmodel. Dr Louise Marshall, Dr Malte Urban and Professor Matt Jarvis\u202fled\u202fthe presentation\u202fwhich really evaluated\u202fthe benefits of the\u202fhyflex\u202fmodel of teaching. There\u202fwas an appreciation by students about the flexibility of the online teaching approach, which meant that whether they were absent due to isolation,\u202fillness,\u202for other circumstances, they could still engage with the content and attend the sessions.\u202fTwo students from the department,\u202fAlex\u202fand Louise, both spoke about their\u202fpositive experiences of the\u202fhyflex\u202fmodel and how it improved\u202faccessibility and inclusivity.\u202fI\u202fhave to\u202fadmit this was one of my favourite presentations\u202fso if you have the\u202fchance,\u202fplease give it a listen.\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/aberystwyth.cloud.panopto.eu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=0b3a1c31-2c78-4776-95ee-ad5c0084ed39\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">To find out more click here for the presentation.<\/a>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Tristram Irvine-Fynn\u202ffrom the Geography and Earth Sciences Department gave a presentation of the creation of\u202f3D Fieldtrips to&nbsp;Cadair&nbsp;Idris.\u202fThis was inspired to\u202fcomplement\u202fthe role of fieldwork within Geography modules.\u202f\u202fBy adapting\u202fresources\u202fthe department\u202fhave created a more accessible environment and active learning experience. It is a fantastic learning\u202fresource\u202f\u202fand\u202fthere is\u202fa lot of potential to increase and expand its use.\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/aberystwyth.cloud.panopto.eu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=5a45a6a7-eddc-48bf-a43d-ad5c008858e0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">To find out more click here for the presentation.<\/a>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kittie&nbsp;Belltree, Mary Glasser, Cal Walters-Davies, &amp; Caroline&nbsp;White&nbsp; from&nbsp;the&nbsp;Student Support and Careers Services&nbsp;gave a presentation on the impacts&nbsp;that&nbsp;blended&nbsp;learning had on neurodiverse students.&nbsp;They noted that not all&nbsp;student&nbsp;experiences of blended learning were&nbsp;particular advantageous and that some neurodiverse students found it difficult to adapt to the new methods of learning and teaching. In the presentation the accessibility service provided information as to the ways which staff can support neurodiverse students and to help&nbsp;ensure their&nbsp;module content&nbsp;is accessible.&nbsp;They&nbsp;also provided <a href=\"\/Users\/hecto\/Downloads\/Inclusive%20Teaching%20Guide.docx\">a helpful guide<\/a> to inclusive teaching. To&nbsp;find out more click here for the presentation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think what the rapid switch to\u202fhyflex\u202fmodel has shown\u202fis the\u202fpotential\u202fwider use of different methods\u202fof teaching.\u202fIt\u202fhas\u202fled to lecturers being able to trial and implement bolder methods of teaching and assessment. It has given departments a chance to reflect on the way in which&nbsp;course content is delivered and\u202ftaught some key lessons and skills which can be used in the further development of\u202fcourse content.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the course of the conference, we had a wide range of presentations.
