This spring, Aberystwyth University ran the national Jisc digital experience insights survey<\/a>. Over 1,000 of our students told us about their attitudes and experiences of technology in learning and teaching. Here are some of the key findings from this survey.<\/p>\n\n\n

      Students were asked what one thing should we do to improve the quality of online and digital learning. This was a free text question, which we analysed for themes. Common themes included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • 42%<\/strong> mentioned improvements to online learning design and organisation<\/strong><\/li>
      • 14%<\/strong> mentioned more engaging and interactive online learning<\/strong><\/li>
      • 12% <\/strong>mentioned more interaction with other students<\/strong><\/li>
      • 11%<\/strong> mentioned more live teaching sessions<\/strong><\/li>
      • 10% <\/strong>mentioned better digital provision<\/strong><\/li>
      • 9%<\/strong> mentioned more interaction with lecturers<\/strong><\/li>
      • 6%<\/strong> mentioned building digital skills and capability<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Positive aspects of online learning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Students were asked what aspect of learning online, if any, had been most positive for them. This was a free text question, which we analysed for themes. Common themes included: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • 54%<\/strong> mentioned flexibility<\/strong><\/li>
        • 27%<\/strong> mentioned access to materials and resources<\/strong><\/li>
        • 12%<\/strong> mentioned contact with lecturers<\/strong><\/li>
        • 10%<\/strong> mentioned benefits for wellbeing and disabilities<\/strong><\/li>
        • 7%<\/strong> mentioned engaging and interactive teaching<\/strong><\/li>
        • 7%<\/strong> mentioned digital technology<\/strong><\/li>
        • 6%<\/strong> mentioned contact with other students<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Negative aspects of online learning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          Students were asked what aspect of learning online, if any, had been most negative for them. This was a free text question, which we analysed for themes. Common themes included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • 45%<\/strong> mentioned lack of motivation or engagement<\/strong><\/li>
          • 23%<\/strong> mentioned online learning design and organisation<\/strong><\/li>
          • 21%<\/strong> mentioned lack of social interaction<\/strong><\/li>
          • 14% <\/strong>mentioned wellbeing issues<\/strong><\/li>
          • 14%<\/strong> mentioned issues with IT systems<\/strong><\/li>
          • 9% <\/strong>mentioned lack of contact with staff<\/strong><\/li>
          • 6%<\/strong> mentioned lack of practical skills<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
