If you want to learn more about Excel, please visit my <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/learning-login\/share?account=107524890&amp;forceAccount=true&amp;redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Elinkedin%2Ecom%2Flearning%2Fcollections%2Fenterprise%2F1%7EAAAAAAZosxo%3D1452101%3FshareId=c17dca84-5995-4418-a7c5-eb039706491d\">new Excel LinkedIn Learning collection<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 6: Adding in multiple rows or columns at once<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to add more than one row or column in one go, this tip will save you the time of having to do this one row at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Highlight the number of rows or columns you want<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Right-click on the highlighted rows or columns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose <strong>Insert<\/strong> from the drop-down menu that appears<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 7: Adding bullet points<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding the button to add these is not as easy as on Microsoft Word but luckily there are a couple of different ways to do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Option 1 &#8211; <\/strong>If you have a numerical keyboard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the cell where you want to add your bullet point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Input <strong>ALT+7 <\/strong>into the cell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your bullet point should appear (if it doesn\u2019t, try option 2 below)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Bullet-Points.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1283\" width=\"318\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Bullet-Points.png 465w, https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Bullet-Points-300x159.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Option 2 &#8211; <\/strong>Another option is to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the cell where you want to add your bullet point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Input <strong>=CHAR(149) <\/strong>into the cell (<em>this will add just the bullet point<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you want to add text after the bullet point, input <strong>=CHAR(149)&amp;\u201dInsert Text Here\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 8: Hyperlinking to a webpage within your spreadsheet<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>To link to a webpage within your spreadsheet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on your chosen cell and under the <strong>Insert<\/strong> tab select <strong>Link <\/strong>(or you can also right-click on the chosen cell and select <strong>Link <\/strong>from there)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type or paste in the website URL allowing you to be taken directly to that website when you select the chosen cell<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This tip can also be used to take you to a YouTube video by copying the URL of your video on YouTube and pasting in the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 9: Adding tick or check boxes<\/h1>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Tick-or-check-boxes-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1285\" width=\"309\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Tick-or-check-boxes-1.png 418w, https:\/\/wordpress.aber.ac.uk\/digital-capabilities\/files\/2023\/05\/Adding-Tick-or-check-boxes-1-300x228.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 309px) 100vw, 309px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This tip can be really useful if you are using Excel for project management, organisational purposes or to visually illustrate a positive result in a data set or in response to a question. To add a tick or check box:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <strong>Developer<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>Insert<\/strong> and choose your desired check or tick icon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tip 10: COUNTIF function<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>This function allows you to count the number of cells that meet particular criteria set by you, for example the number of times a particular job appears in a list of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In an empty cell type <strong>=COUNTIF(<\/strong> followed by either typing the cell range you want to look in or by selecting and dragging over the desired cells<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then type in the key phrase, number or character you are searching for in speech marks (<em>don\u2019t worry, this function isn\u2019t case-sensitive so you don\u2019t need to worry about using capital letters or not for word searches<\/em>) &#8211; e.g. <strong>=COUNTIF(A3:A25, \u201cDoctor\u201d)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the brackets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then press the <strong>Enter<\/strong> key<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blogpost by Laurie Stevenson (Student Digital Champion) I published Part 1 of this blogpost earlier this week, where I introduced you to 5 tips and tricks to help you make the most of Excel, and this blogpost contains 5 further tips!
