What Can Aber’s Libraries Offer You?

Here at Aberystwyth we are committed to offering you dynamic learning environments to support and develop our students. Aberystwyth is home to three libraries that offer flexible workplaces to suit everyone’s learning, offer you state-of-the-art computer facilities and provide you with the wealth of knowledge needed to unlock your potential.

The Physical Sciences Library on Penglais Campus provides collections and study areas for physics, mathematics and computer science subjects. Whilst the Thomas Parry Library houses collections for information studies, law and criminology, business and management on Llanbadarn Campus.

At the heart of Penglais Campus we have the Hugh Owen Library, which serves as the main library and is open 24/7 during term time, with collections of humanities, life sciences, social sciences, education, rural studies and Welsh subjects. However, this is not the only thing the Hugh Owen Library can offer you during your studies…

Group Study Rooms

A key aspect of many degrees at Aberystwyth University is group presentations. These can end up being the bane of many student’s life (I know it was mine)! It can be really tough to get your group to do the work, let alone find location and organise a meeting where you can discuss and practice your presentation without disrupting others. At Aberystwyth, we have group study rooms you can book out by asking one of our friendly library team. This will make the whole process a little less stressful for you.

Private Study Rooms

If you like your own space during exam season you can book private study areas, so you can have your own peace and quiet away from distractions. It’s a great way to make sure you knuckle down during those stressful and usually busy exam periods in the library.

Information Services

Hugh Owen has a team of dedicated staff on hand to support you and assist you in using the resources on offer to their full potential. They even offer technical advice if you are struggling to connect to the internet or your laptop malfunctions. They are contactable via the information desks, phone, email or instant chat.

E-books

As well as the vast collection of physical material the library offers even more material online via Primo, the Library catalogue. Creating a wealth of material to equip you for success. This gives you access anywhere so you can work in your accommodation if thats where you work best.

The National Library of Wales

As well as the Universities three libraries, right on Penglais Campus’ doorstep is the National Library of Wales is one of only five copyright libraries in Britain, making it entitled to any book published in the UK and a very unique learning facility for students.
