Project Outline

Food Engagement Wales is designed to widen public and industrial engagement, thereby increasing the understanding of and economic potential for this important industry that, with the retail, hospitality, processing and production workforces, employs approximately 78,000 people generating over £2 billion per annum in Wales. Food Engagement Wales will pool knowledge, facilities and experience to suggest ways to deliver The Mission which is to “de-carbonise, shorten and simplify existing food supply chains and discover new opportunities for high-value food production and processing in Wales” and to develop new channels to explain this to the public.

As profit margins for food production and supply remain challenged, the need to identify expertise in Wales to scope and deliver research to benefit Welsh food producers’ commercial performance becomes ever more critical.
